THE UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas (UST) and Letran notched seats to the national finals of the 16th Nestea Beach Volley 2013 after they won the women and men’s crowns respectively yesterday in the Luzon/National Capital Region regionals which was held in Laiya, Batangas.
UST, which was represented by Maruja Banaticla and Judy Caballejo, downed the University of Perpetual Help-Laguna, 21-14 21-18, in the women’s final.
The Lady Tigresses made it to the finals after they beat Adamson in the semis while Perpetual Help got their ticket after downing Lyceum –Batangas.
Over on the men’s side, Erickson Joseph Ramos and Rudy Gatdula led Letran to a 21-16 21-11 win over De La Salle-Dasmarinas for the title. Letran disposed of Arellano in their semis encounter while La Salle emerged victorious over Perpetual Help in the other semis pairing.
The winners will be joining the Visayas leg winners. The men’s side will have the reigning national champions, University of the Visayas along with the University of Mindanao-Tagum, University of San Jose-Recoletos, University of Southern Philippines Foundation, MSU-Tawi-Tawi, and Holy Cross of Davao College. The women’s side have UMT, Southwestern University, Central Philippines University, Jose Maria College, USPF and the University of San Carlos. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
