THE SAN MIGUEL Beermen notched their seventh straight win after they blasted the Singapore Slingers, 78-57, in the Asean Basketball League last Saturday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The win kept San Miguel abreast of the league-leading Indonesia Warriors, who sport an 11-3 (win-loss) record.
The Beermen had Chris Banchero, Leo Avenido and Justin Williams to thank for their 10th win in 13 outings as they waxed hot during a sizzling second period stretch that saw them erect a 36-22 lead.
The Beermen held a slim five-point lead, 20-15, after the first 10 minutes of play before the Avenido, Williams and Banchero conspired for a 9-0 run at the onset of the second for a 29-18 lead.
Banchero had 19 points while Avenido, the reigning league MVP, had 16 markers. Williams added 14 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. So far, San Miguel has won all four of their meetings with Singapore this season. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
