Lady Eagles, Lady Stags dispute V-League lead today
THE Ateneo Lady Eagles and San Sebastian will figure in what is expected to be a heated battle as the two fancied squads fight for the lead in the standings even as Air Force gun for another victory against the struggling Perpetual Help in the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference today at the Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Eagles and the Stags are coming off contrasting stints when they slug it out in the 4 p.m. main game with the former absorbing a stinging 21-25, 24-26, 25-20, 31-29 setback to a resurgent Air Force side last Sunday that snapped a two-game win run. The Lady Stags on the other hand, toppled the Altas with a 25-18, 25-17, 25-13 victory, tying the first conference champion Eagles at 2-1 behind Army’s 2-0 card.
But odds are just about even between the league’s top regular member-schools with one anchoring its campaign on its mainstays and the other on a slew of guest players and former stalwarts. Alyssa Valdez, Fille Cainglet, Angeline Gervacio, Gretchen Ho and Jamenea Ferrer, who steered the Eagles past the Adamson Lady Falcons to the first conference crown, try to bounce back from that loss to Air Force and regain the lead from Army. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
