UNIVERSITY of the Visayas’ (UV) Changmai Necessario bested Lapu-Lapu’s Joshua Kinaadman, 6-0, 6-1, to bring home the 18-and-Under boys title in the 14th Tru-Flex National Age Group, which came to an end yesterday at the Lapu-Lapu tennis court and Amores tennis court.
Necesario, the lone Cebuano to have won a title in this Group 1 tournament, will be one of the representatives of Central Visayas in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa in Dumaguete.
Clinching the title in the distaff side was Cagayan de Oro’s Roxanne Resma, who dismantled Iligan’s Khim Iglupas, 6-2, 6-2.
Iglupas also got the best of Resma, whom she thrashed 6-2, 6-3 for the 16-and-Under girls title.
Both girls are members of the Philippine Tennis Academy and are set to represent the country in the Junior Federation Cup.
Sri Lankan Adithya Karunaratne, who is based in Hong Kong, made her trip to the Philippines worthwhile by clinching two titles.
Karunaratne took the 14-and-Under girls title by dismissing Bais’ Angela Cabaral and also won the 12-and-Under girls title by outsmarting Sultan Kudarat’s Carlyn Bless Guarde, 6-2, 6-1.
Two titles were clinched by netters from Manila. Alexandra Eala survived Hong Kong’s Chui Kei Leung, 5-7, 7-6, 7-5, for the 10-and-Under unisex title.
TV and movie actress Cherry Pie Picache’s son Nio Trio also dominated Hong Kong’s Tristan Kwok, 6-3, 6-4, for the 12-and-Under boys title.
Davao’s Bryan Otico survived Hong Kong’s Fabien Callaud, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, for the 14-and-Under boys title. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
