3 cops slain, 3 wounded in clash with rebels

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines—Three policemen were killed while three others were wounded in a clash with suspected communist rebels in Asipulo, Ifugao, on Friday.

Reports from the Cordillera police said Inspector George Lauro, Police Officer 2 Jody Lino Mamgue and PO2 John Codod were killed when their group engaged an undetermined number of communist rebels in a gunfight in Sitio Nangkatingey in Barangay Namal at 7:25 a.m.

Their companions — PO2 Marcial Angaga, PO2 Solomon Pao-iton and PO1 Abdon Angayon -– were wounded and taken by military helicopter to the Lagawe General Hospital in the Ifugao capital, Lagawe.

The victims were part of a group of policemen from the Cordillera police’s public safety battalion and the Benguet and Ifugao police offices’ public safety company.
