THE SAN MIGUEL Beermen will try to pay tribute to their fallen coach with a victory today as they plunge back into the action against the Singapore Slingers in the Asean Basketball League at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Former head coach Bobby Parks passed away last week after his bout with cancer and the squad is dedicating the remainder of the season to the former seven-time best import award-winner.
Parks coached the squad last year but the Beermen lost to the Indonesia Warriors in the finals.
San Miguel is currently the hottest team in the league right now, logging six straight wins that put them in second place in the standings with their 9-3 (win-loss) mark. They trail the Warriors by a game after Indonesia beat the Saigon Heat, 83-74, for their 11th win in 14 games.
The Beermen are expected to lean once more on high-scoring local point guard Chris Banchero, who was named the league’s Player of the Month for the month of March. Banchero will also have some stellar players beside him in imports Justin Williams and Brian Williams along with former PBA MVP Asi Taulava and the reigning ABL MVP Leo Avenido. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
