SAN PEDRO, Laguna—President Benigno Aquino has approved the conversion of this municipality into a component city.

The President signed the 64-page Republic Act No. 10420, which converted the municipality into a component city on March 27, although a copy of it was received by the municipality only on Wednesday, according to San Pedro information officer Sonny Ordoña.

Ordoña said the cityhood of San Pedro would be ratified through a plebiscite to be scheduled by the Commission on Elections.

“This is long overdue. We’ve been left out by our neighbors, the cities of Biñan and  Sta. Rosa,” said San Pedro mayor Calixto Cataquiz in a statement.
