NYC ‘zombie’ finds long-lost cat in Times Square

/ 09:14 AM April 05, 2013

NEW YORK—A New York City man dressed as a zombie for his job at a haunted house is being credited with rescuing a cat that disappeared from his owner’s home two years ago.

Jeremy Zelkowitz says he spotted Disaster the cat crossing 42nd Street in Times Square early Saturday.

Zelkowitz dropped the cat off at a nearby animal hospital. Staff scanned an implanted microchip that identified the last owner as New York City police officer Jimmy Helliesen.

Helliesen says he adopted Disaster two years ago, but the cat fled its Long Island home after six months. Helliesen doesn’t know how the cat ended up in Manhattan, saying his journey must have been “quite an adventure.”
