EXTENDING the concrete barriers on the approaches of Cebu City flyovers is not enough to prevent accidents from happening.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said it would have been more effective if the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) install reflectorized barriers to improve its visibility and lessen the risk of drivers ramming into them.
“They (DPWH) have to remove those barriers. Ug dili sila mu-remove, I’ll have it removed. We do not need the extended barriers. What we need are reflectorized barriers,” he said.
INVITING ACCIDENTS
Rama raised his concern over the ongoing work undertaken by the DPWH on the flyovers during the executive committee meeting of the Central Visayas Regional Development Council (RDC) yesterday morning.
He said instead of solving safety concerns, the extended concrete barriers are only inviting more accidents to happen in the area.
“Manlupad ang mga sakyanan ana ug hump ang mo-sugat nila. The best thing to do is invest on reflectors that will extend the island form. Ug naay ma disgrasya diha plastic ra ilang ma igo,” he said.
