THREE government buildings were inaugurated in Olango Island in Lapu-Lapu City Tuesday morning.
The buildings include a materials recovery facility (MRF), a livelihood training center and a hospital.
The materials recovery facility worth P2.5 million was completed last March after nine months of construction. The facility includes a garbage shredder and a grinder.
The facility, located in a 5-hectare government lot in barangay Sta. Rosa, processes garbage from Olango’s eight island barangays and three islet barangays.
The newly completed Livelihood Training Center located at the back of the mini city hall in barangay Talima houses the training rooms for speed sewing, welding and culinary arts.
The center costs P2.5 million.
Virgie Empenado, training officer of speed sewing, said they have already produced around 1,800 speed sewers since 2009, and all the graduates were sent to sewing companies in the Mactan Export Processing Zone (MEPZ).
The culinary and welding skills trainings were added into the skills training program run by the city government due to the demands and requests of MEPZ companies. Both trainings will start next month.
Jimmy Glomar, officer-in-charge of Lapu-Lapu City Livelihood and Resource Center, said members of catering group Kababayen-ang Oponganon Nagkahuisa Alang sa Kalambu-an from the three barangays of Olango will train the culinary students.
The hospital building is an expansion of the existing community hospital. It has an operating room, a delivery room, labor room and an x-ray room. The building worth P5 million is provided by the Department of Health.
