Lim orders arrest of rookie cop tagged in slay
Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim has ordered the arrest of a rookie policeman who is being sought for the killing of a Filipino-Norwegian in Quezon City on July 31. Yesterday, Lim directed the Manila Police District (MPD) to go ahead and file administrative proceedings against Police Officer 1 Harold Meneses who has not reported gone home or reported for work since he allegedly shot and killed 18-year-old Mikael Troy Rasay in a fight in front of a bar on Timog Avenue. Meneses is assigned at the MPD Station 1. It’s been more than a week since Meneses has gone AWOL (absent without official leave). Even if he is located, they can’t arrest him anymore so the Quezon City police should file [criminal] charges against him so a warrant can [be issued for his arrest],” Lim told reporters in Filipino. He urged the MPD to find Meneses, charge him administratively and turn him over to the Quezon City police where the complaint against him is lodged. Jaymee T. Gamil
Burglars victimize German official
Thieves broke into the house of a German official in Dasmariñas Village in Makati City on Sunday night, taking nearly P300,000 worth of cash and valuables. Superintendent Jaime Santos, officer in charge of the Makati City police, said the break-in at the house of Dr. Walter Salzer, 62, was discovered at around 8 p.m. on Sunday. Salzer sought help from the exclusive subdivision’s security guards who in turn called up the police. “Our main problem with this case is that we the police cannot conduct our visibility patrols inside the village,” Santos told the Inquirer over the phone. He added that they were still trying to determine how many men were involved in the burglary which occurred while no one was at home. The victim works for the German Society for International Cooperation, an aid group owned by the German Federal Government. Miko Morelos
