CEBUANOS were advised to drink more water and use umbrellas to beat the summer heat which is expected to last until the end of this month.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pag-asa) said too much sun exposure can cause skin cancer and strokes among hypertensive people in extreme cases.
“One should drink cold water in particular to avoid stroke. There are those people who suddenly die even if they don’t have any illnesses,” Pagasa Mactan weather observer Alex Padin said. As of 2 p.m. yesterday, the temperature was 32.4 °C.
Next month, Padin said they project the southwest monsoon or habagat winds will take over, bringing in rains to the country. For now there is no low pressure area, he said.
Padin said one should avoid swimming from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m since the waters are warm at the time. Reporter Ador Vincent Mayol
