Dumanjug town Mayor Nelson Garcia cried ’political harassment’ after alleged ‘goons’ of his opponent threatened some of his supporters.
The One Cebu candidate is criticizing the Philippine National Police (PNP) for not doing anything against the alleged movement of armed men in their town.
In a phone interview, Mayor Garcia said his supporters reported to him that four armed men have been conducting check points since last week in the vicinity of barangays Canhactol and Candabong telling passersby not to vote for him .
Mayor Garcia said, he had it blottered in the police station and informed the Comelec about this, but got no response yet.
He also said he informed Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) Chief Patrocinio Comendador about it through a text message but also got no reply.
With this, Garcia said he is appealing to Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo, Police Regional Office chief, to order his men to remain neutral. “I appeal to Gen. Garbo not to allow the police to be used by the Liberal Party. I hope there is still fairness left in him,” he said.
Cebu Daily News asked the Dumanjug Police Office about the incident reported by Mayor Garcia, but PO3 Dionesio Tagupa, desk on duty at noontime yesterday, said there is no report or complaint about the alleged harassment of armed men on supporters of Mayor Garcia.
