Consolacion mayor defends plan to build new townhall

THE need for a new town hall is taking centerstage in the political scene of Consolacion town.

Mayor Teresa Alegado yesterday justified her administration’s plan to demolish the Consolacion Sports Complex where she plans to build a new town hall.

Alegado said the old municipal building is already congested. She said they even have to rent the adjacent old cooperative building owned by the San Narciso Parish for some offices.

Last week, her political rival organized a protest against the plan to demolish the facility.

Former mayor Avelino Gungob who is trying to regain the mayoralty on May 13 said the new municipal building should be built in barangay Laray – in a town property he started developing in 2009.

But Alegado said, the barangay Laray site is still beset with issues like its classification as timberland.

“If I won in 2004, the municipal building should have been in Foodarama because that’s our land,” Alegado said.

The Gungob administration them leased the lot in barangay Poblacion Oriental, to Foodarama in 2004.
