A five-month pregnant woman ended up in jail for stabbing and killing her live-in partner after he beat her up when she failed to give him the P10 he was asking for.

PO1 Anthony Boncan of the Manila Police District’s homicide section said that Nel Jessa Nivera immediately gave herself up to authorities after the death of her partner, Leopoldo Tioson.

The 20-year-old Nivera told the police that she and Tioson had a heated argument inside their house at Quiapo, Manila, on Tuesday morning when he asked her for P10, an amount she didn’t have.

“She could not give him P10 because she had already spent the money on food for their children. This led to a heated argument and the man started hurting his partner until the later saw a knife which she used to stab the victim,” Boncan said.

The couple have two children aged two and three years old plus a third on the way. Nivera told investigators that the victim would hurt her every time they fought, even over petty matters.

According to the police, the victim was able to get out of their house and ask his neighbors for help. They took him to Mary Chiles Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. Filipinas Tejero.
