9 Team PNoy, 6 UNA bets have ‘statistical chance of winning’ – Pulse survey

MANILA, Philippines – Fifteen senatorial aspirants have a “statistical chance of winning,” nine from the Liberal Party-led Team PNoy and six from the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), according to the latest Pulse Asia survey.

Three reelectionists are leading the list with Senator Loren Legarda gaining first place with 55.3 percent of the 1,800 respondents saying that she had their votes.

She ranked first to second and was followed by Senator Francis Escudero who received 51.1 percent and ranked first to third.

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano got third place, obtaining 48.7 percent of the respondents votes and ranked second to third in the list.

Former Movie and Television Review and Classification (MTRCB) chairperson Grace Poe and Senator Aquilino Pimentel III both landed in the fourth to 10th places, receiving 42.1 and 41.7 percent, respectively.

Former Las Piñas Representative Cynthia Villar (40.8 percent) and Nancy Binay (39.6 percent) shared the fourth to 11th places.

Meanwhile, former National Youth Commission (NYC) chairperson Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, cousin of President Benigno Aquino III (38.6 percent); San Juan City Representative Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito Estrada (38.6 percent) and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV (37.7 percent) shared the fourth to 12th places.

Senator Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan (36.8 percent) landed in the sixth to 14th places, followed by Aurora Representative Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara (34.6 percent) who occupied the eighth to 15th places.

Former senator Juan Miguel Zubiri (32.5 percent) and Cagayan Representative Juan Ponce “Jack” Enrile Jr. (32.5 percent) shared the 11th to 16th places and were followed by former senator Richard “Dick” Gordon (30.7 percent) who took the 12th to 17th places.

The report showed that these are the candidates who would likely win had the midterm elections been held during the survey period (March 16 to 20).

It also indicated that those with the strongest chances of winning were “either former or incumbent members of Congress.”

The report said that as of March, 7.7 percent of Filipinos were not inclined to vote for any of the 33 candidates for senator.
