‘Consolacion raid a warning against criminals’

THE recent police raid in a slum area in barangay Pulpogan, Consolacion town that resulted in the death of three suspected drug pushers has become a cause for concern for residents, Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado said.

“In barangay Pulpogan, the people there are so mixed, one can hardly know who is engaged in criminality,” she said.

The raid was a joint operation of the Regional Intelligence Division (RID) and Provincial Intelligence Division said Senior Supt. Armando Radok, acting Chief of the Regional Police Community Relations Division.

“The shoot-out is based on procedure. It is done in accordance to the mandate of the law,” Radok said.

Alegado said some outsiders who found a home in barangay Pulpogan eventually engage in criminal activities like drug pushing.

“With the raid, these criminal elements will now have second thoughts of engaging in illicit and illegal activities,” Alegado said.

She said Consolacion remains one of the fastest growing towns in Cebu.

With growth comes population growth and the influx of outsiders, some of whom may want to resort to criminal activities to enrich themselves, the mayor said.

Alegado hopes that the police will continue to strengthen their presence in Consolacion town to act as a deterrent against criminals.

She also called on Consolacion residents to be vigilant at all times. Correspondent Tweeny M. Malinao
