Petron opts for Sims

SAN MIGUEL Beermen import Gabe Freeman has been left out in the cold as his comeback stint for the Petron Blaze Boosters ended before it even began after the PBA squad decided to stick with new import Henry Sims for their remaining games in the Commissioner’s Cup.

According to reports, Sims is set to arrive from the United States today and will immediately join the Boosters for their Friday duel with the Meralco Bolts. Sims was a reliable pillar of power for the Erie Bayhawks in the NBA D-League where he averaged 16 points, 8.7 rebounds and a block.

However, this development leaves Freeman, a former Best Import awardee, hanging dry as he was set to suit up for Petron for two games before coming back to his mother team, the Beermen of the Asean Basketball League, in time for the league’s official deadline for playoff lineups this April 7.

With this new happening, Freeman is expected to suit up for the Beermen for their game against the Singapore Slingers this weekend at the Ynares Sports Arena. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
