SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna—The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) has the upper hand in the May national elections as far as Laguna province is concerned, with the incumbent governor on its side, according to one of its senatorial candidates.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of UNA’s proclamation rally here on Monday, senatorial candidate Nancy Binay said they were expecting a win for the UNA senatorial slate in Laguna with incumbent Laguna Gov. Jeorge “ER” Ejercito running under the party.

Ejercito, an actor, is also a nephew of ousted President Joseph Estrada.

“Laguna is a big voting bloc. We expect the slate to win (here),” Binay said.

Ejercito, a former mayor of Pagsanjan town, became governor in 2010. He is seeking reelection against Laguna fourth district Rep. Egay San Luis.

Ejercito promised a “solid victory” for the UNA, saying Laguna is a bailiwick of the party.
