Best regional police office

The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) was named the best police regional office in the country.

Chief Supt. Josephus Angan, special project assistant to the Department of Interior and Local Government, said PRO-7 bested 16 other police regional offices based on their accomplishments such as operations against illegal drugs, illegal gambling, campaign against loose firearms and private armed groups.

Angan lauded PRO-7 chief Marcelo Garbo’s efforts in making the PRO-7 as the best police regional office.

Meanwhile, five police officers were awarded the Medalya ng Kagitingan for the arrest of William Mercader, allegedly a big-time drug pusher, in Medellin town last February.

Police said Mercader was a level 1 drug pusher, who could sell at least a kilo of illegal drugs in a week.

They awardees were Supt. Rodolfo Albotra Jr., SPO1 Reynaldo Solante and PO3 Roderick Balili, of the Provincial Intelligence Branch- Cebu Provincial Police Office.  Chief Insp. Maribel Getigan, and SPO1 Mechale Abellana also received the award. Ava Marie Zorilla, a non-uniformed personnel, was also given the award./Correspondent Chito O. Aragon

Skeletons found in Liloan swamp

A 61-year-old fisherman found two human skeletons in a swamp in sitio Tabuklamak, barangay Yati, Lilo-an town on Easter Sunday.

Hepolito Jocotmaya told police that he was trying to catch mudfish when he saw the skeletons wrapped in a net.

Jocotmayo informed the barangay officials, who then called the police.  Police said the remains would have been dumped six months ago since there were no tissues on the skeleton.

Man shot dead in Alcantara

A 21-year-old man died after unidentified gunmen peppered his house with bullets  last Saturday in barangay Salagmaya, Alcantara town in southern Cebu.

The body of Rene Remotigue was found by his sister on Sunday morning lying face down in his room with bullet wounds in his body.

Hubby drownsin Marigondon

A 44-year-old man drowned as he and his family celebrated Easter Sunday at a barangay Marigondon beach in Lapu-Lapu City.

Roel Casquejo of barangay Umapad, Mandaue City  was rushed to the hospital after he was found floating face down in chest-deep waters.
