ILOILO CITY—Three persons died and six others were hurt in a vehicular accident in San Miguel town in Iloilo on Easter Sunday.
Arnel Colorado, 25, a driver of a passenger jeepney, died after he lost control of the jeepney he was driving and slammed another passenger jeepney he was following at around 3:25 p.m. at Barangay (village) San Jose in San Miguel.
Colorado was pronounced dead on arrival at Aleosan District Hospital in the neighboring town of Alimodian, according to a report of the San Miguel police station.
Also killed were Rogelio Paala, 70, and Ernie Soliva, 30, who were standing on the road when they were hit by Colorado’s jeepney. They were brought to Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao District in Iloilo City but they died on Sunday evening.
Six passengers of the jeepney hit by Colorado’s vehicle were brought to hospitals in the city for treatment of their minor injuries.
Initial police investigation showed that Colorado was trying to overtake the passenger jeepney two vehicles ahead of him before the accident happened. However, he lost control after the private vehicle in front also overtook the same jeepney. All the vehicles were on their way to Iloilo City from San Miguel. Nestor P. Burgos Jr., Inquirer Visayas
