What better day to kick off their bid for reelection than on April Fool’s Day?
The camps of Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista have announced that they will be launching their campaign on April 1.
Lim’s chief of staff Ricardo de Guzman said they picked the date because it seemed an appropriate day to remind voters not to be fooled by empty promises and fake propoor sentiments.
President Aquino is expected to lead Lim’s proclamation rally at Bonifacio Shrine beside city hall. Actor Cesar Montano, who portrayed Lim in his fourth biopic, will be the program’s master of ceremonies.
Lim’s closest rival for the post, former President Joseph Estrada, kicked off his campaign at 4 p.m. yesterday in Liwasang Bonifacio with “Happy Easterada.”
In Quezon City, the mayoral race is now a three-cornered fight after the Commission on Elections disqualified one of the bets for being a nuisance candidate.
On the other hand, the competitors for the vice mayor’s post has been narrowed down from four to just two—the incumbent Joy Belmonte and independent candidate Rolando Jota.
Bautista’s chief of staff Aldrin Cuna said Bautista and his party mates would jumpstart their campaign with an 8 a.m. Mass at Sto. Domingo Church on April 1 followed by a citywide motorcade.
