MANILA, Philippines—Traffic crawled on two major expressways as the Holy Week exodus peaked Thursday afternoon.

At the North Luzon Expressway, traffic officer Dave Bautista said that as of 12:02 p.m. traffic was heavy along Sta. Rita-Pulilan, as well as at the Dau exit.

Bautista said the traffic build-up, about 4 to 5 kilometers long, started since Wednesday evening.

In a twitter post, NLEX (@nlextraffic) said it is giving away bottled drinking water until supply lasts.

At the South Luzon Expressway, Naja de Guzman said traffic slowed on the southbound lane of Calamba exit and on the same lane along Ayala area.

A twitter post from the Toll Regulatory Board (@TRBSAFE) also said traffic was heavy at the southbound lane of Calamba toll plaza.

Bautista and de Guzman both said the traffic jam was mainly due to the increasing volume of motorists traversing both expressways.
