‘Guadalupe fire victims need more aid’ –Captain

The family of 16-year-old  Liezel Costanilla, who suffered second-degree burns during last Friday’s barangay Guadalupe fire, is appealing for financial assistance for the victim.

Jemar Costanilla, Liezel’s brother, said he was appealing for financial assistance for the treatment and medication of her sister who was still in critical condition at the Cebu Doctor’s Hospital.

Liezel’s body was reportedly 90 percent burned. The Costanilla’s like most of the victims had most of their properties destroyed by the fire.

Jinky Mahidlawon, a housewife, said the only thing that her husband saved was their TV’s remote control as he was watching television when the  fire broke out.

Mahidlawon, who had no stable source of income, said she was worried over her family’s future.

The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, however, had already delivered relief boxes  of food, clothing and household equipment.

Guadalupe barangay captain Michael Gacasan said he was thankful for the assistance but he was hoping that more aid, especially housing materials, would be given to the fire victims.

Gacasan said the barangay was widening the roads so that rescue teams could easily enter the area during  disasters and emergencies./Correspondent Patricia Andrea Pateña
