CVCCO cops hoops crown in GAA meet

THE Fabs Abellana-led Cebu Vendors Credit Cooperative (CVCCO) rallied past Gigi Catering Services, 79-76, last Sunday to capture the championship of the Guadalupe Athletics Association (GAA)-2013 Sinulog Cup basketball tournament at the barangay Guadalupe Sports Complex.

The Caterers led, 21-8 in the first quarter but CVCCO responded with a, 19-9 run in the second to close in at, 27-30 at the half.

In the 3rd period, former commercial player Alex Cainglet led Gigi in outscoring CVCCO, 22-19 as the Caterers head to the fourth with a, 52-46 cushion.

CVCCO finally tied the count at 58-all with 4:27 remaining on Erwin Ferrer’s shot then got its first taste of the lead at, 64-63 on Andy Miñoza’s undergoal stab, before outscoring Gigi, 15-13 for the three-point win.

FEATURED STORIES

Tim Dinampo and Erwin Ferrer paced CVCCO with 18 and 12 points, respectively while Rico Quilario and Alex Cainglet led the Caterers with 17 and 16 markers.

Meanwhile, Raul “Aulga” Sollano handed down the prizes and medals to the top performing teams and individuals during the awarding program.

Andy Miñoza bagged the coveted MVP award and was joined in the Mythical Five by Alex Cainglet, Rey Potot, Erwin Ferrer and Tim Dinampo. Other individual awardees: Ed Pajuay – Best Defensive Player and Fabs Abellana – Sportsmanship Award.
