Security guard shot dead

A SECURITY guard was shot dead while he was on duty at a mall along F. Ramos Street, Cebu City before noon yesterday.

Ritchie Mancera, 38, a native of Dumanjug, Cebu, was shot in the head. He died two hours after he was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center.

Police said Mancera of Cebu Niño Agency might have been a victim of mistaken identity.

Police said it was possible that Mancera’s fellow guard Rolito Rellente was the target of the attack.

Earlier, Rellente had an argument with a male customer of a fastfood chain at Raintree Mall, whom he asked to park his motorcycle to the designated parking area.

Minutes later, the customer confronted Rellente, blaming the security guard for the loss of his helmet.

Police said the customer challenged Rellente to a fistfight. The security guard didn’t oblige.

The customer left but threatened that he would return.

Mancera arrived to relieve Rellente. Rellente informed Mancera of the argument and advised him to be careful.

Rellente said he was on his way to the guard house when he heard a gunshot.

When he checked, Rellente found a bloodied Mancera slumped on a chair.
