Declogging work in QC continues—OCD

MANILA, Philippines—Declogging operations continued Monday in a village in Quezon City that was hit by flashflood following the sudden heavy downpour in Metro Manila Sunday night, the Office of Civil Defense-National Capital Region said.

Monching Roma of OCD-NCR said the water level on Peacock Street in Barangay (village) Commonwealth, Quezon City went level down from chest deep Sunday evening to knee deep as of Monday.

Roma said residents in the area left their homes and moved to higher ground when the flood reached several feet high at 8:25 p.m.

“Umakyat sa second floor or mga bubong nila yung mga apektadong residente (The water level rose up to the second floor or the roof of the houses of affected residents),” he said, blaming the garbage-clogged drainage system in the area.

Commonwealth village chief Jose Gaviola said about 200 families live in the area.

Roma said their work will not stop until floodwaters subside.
