Seven barangays took part in Mandaue City’s Fire Olympics held last Saturday at the Mandaue Reclamation area.
Barangay Canduman was crowned champion in the event and took home P5,000.
Barangays Cambaru and Cabancalan finished second and third and got P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.
Other competing barangays were Banilad, Labogon, Pakna-an and Subangdaku.
The activity, organized by the Mandaue City Fire Department and the city government, was held in line of the observance of the fire prevention month.
The competing teams hurdled several drills such as the rescue and bucket relays.
The competing teams were composed of the barangays’ fire brigade volunteers which were trained by personnel of the Mandaue City fire station.
Mandaue City Fire Marshall Rolando Orbeta said in his speech during the awarding ceremony that Mandaue mayor Jonas Cortes will continue to finds ways to acquire more fire trucks for the city.
Orbeta said the city is prioritizing the purchase of mini-firetrucks which will be given to the barangays./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
