Tanod shot dead by neighbor
A BARANGAY tanod was shot dead by his neighbor in barangay Malolos, Barili town, southwest Cebu.
Richie Caballes, 28, succumbed to a gunshot wound in the chest. He died while being brought to a hospital.
The suspect, Andrew Marabillas, remains at large.
Police investigation revealed that Caballes was waiting for a ride in front of a sari-sari store when Marabillas arrived and slapped his head twice.
Caballes retaliated by punching Marabillas in the abdomen.
Article continues after this advertisementThe two traded blows until Marabillas whipped out a gun and shot the victim, said PO2 Pablito Caadlawon of the Barili police station.
Article continues after this advertisementPolice said the two men had been at odds after an incident last March 20 where the tanod pacified the suspect’s wife who was arguing with a neighbor.
Police said Marabillas confronted the tanod for intervening.

Armed man in terminal nabbed
A 26-YEAR-OLD MAN was arrested after police caught him with an unlicensed firearm at the North Bus Terminal in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
A .38 revolver was recovered from Norbert Castano, 26, a resident of barangay Lorega, Cebu City.
The man was reportedly drunk when he was arrested.
Police accosted the man when he allegedly shouted at operatives of the Subangdaku police patrolling the terminal past 10 p.m. Thursday night.
The inspection was part of the security measures implemented by police due to the large volume of passengers who will travel to provinces for the observance of the Holy Week.
When frisked, police also found marijuana sticks in the man’s possession.
Possession of illegal drugs and violation of election gun ban will be filed against the man, police said./REPORTER JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
