Beermen eye top spot

/ 06:32 AM March 24, 2013

THE San Miguel Beermen resume their hunt for the top spot in the standings as they take on the struggling Singapore Slingers today in the ASEAN Basketball League at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The Beermen have won five straight games and stand in solo second place with an 8-3 (win-loss) record, just a notch behind the league-leading Indonesia Warriors, which tote a 9-3 card. San Miguel though, would be loath to take the Slingers lightly as the latter will be fired up to bounce back following their humiliating, 63-93 loss to the Westport Malaysia Dragons in their previous game.

San Miguel hopes to keep their resurgence going behind the efforts of imports Brian Williams and defensive anchor, Justin Williams. There to give local support are veterans Asi Taulava, Chris Banchero and reigning league MVP, Leo Avenido. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
