Tabuena bags crown, Hong finishes 3rd

MIGUEL Tabuena proved unstoppable during yesterday’s final round of the ICTSI Sherwood Hills Classic as he scored a 32 at the back nine for a final round score of six-under par 66 to claim the championship with a massive eight-shot win over Edward Reyes at the Sherwood course in Trece Martirez, Cavite.

The 18-year old shotmaker had a 12-under 276 total to bag the P450,000 grand cash prize in the kick-off leg of the 17-circuit tour.

Cebuano golfer, Charles “Chuckie” Hong, an ace out of Cebu Country Club, finished in respectable third place, tied with JapaneseToru Nakajima. Hong had a final round score of 72 to finish with 286, the same score as Nakajima, who had a 75.

While his inward 32 finished off a badly outclassed field, Tabuena actually settled the issue right at the front with a flawless 34, pulling away from erstwhile pursuer  Nakajima, who started the round just one stroke adrift but made the turn seven shots behind with an atrocious 40.   /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
