3 drown in river

CAVITE—Two girls who fell into a river and the man who went to their rescue drowned in Noveleta town on Friday, police  said Saturday.

Neighbors Camille Pijing, 12, and Alessandra Hayag, 9, were playing along a riverbank in the town’s Barangay Poblacion around 5 p.m. on  Friday when they fell into the 10-foot-deep water, according to Noveleta’s deputy police chief, Insp. Nenita Dilidili.

Tricycle driver Alberto Quimpo, 30, saw the accident and rushed to rescue the children by jumping into the water, but he, too, drowned, added police investigator P02 Robert Rebadulla. Maricar Cinco, Inquirer Southern Luzon
