MANILA, Philippines – United Nationalist Alliance senatorial hopeful Nancy Binay on Thursday hit back at Team PNoy senatorial candidate Maria Ana Consuelo “Jamby” Madrigal for labelling her an “elitist.”
Madrigal branded the younger Binay an elitist for crying harassment after her mother was briefly stopped from leaving the country for the Vatican last Monday.
“How can I be an elitist; my name is not even Madrigal and I eat galunggong (round scad),” she said in reaction to Madrigal’s criticism.
In a statement, Madrigal blasted Vice President Jejomar Binay’s daughter and advised Nancy not to demand special treatment and privileges for her mother, Elenita.
Elenita was earlier barred from leaving the country because of a hold departure order on the former Makati City mayor’s pending case at the Sandiganbayan.
The younger Binay called for an end to “political attacks” on her mother.
“I hope Mrs. Madrigal would check her facts first before she makes such statements,” she said, insisting that the Binay family was not receiving special privileges.
She said that her mother had been given the necessary permit to leave the country and accompany the Vice President to witness Pope Francis’ inaugural Mass.
