Rain or Shine downs Barako Bull to snap 2-game slide

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters bounced back from a surprising loss the last time out by trouncing the Barako Bull Energy Colas, 103-93, last night in the 38th PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome.

The Painters snapped a two-game slide behind the second half brilliance of import Bruno Sundov and top guard Paul Lee.

The seven-foot-three Sundov fired 16 of his game-high 27 points in the second half as the Painters rebounded from a shocking 79-87 loss to the import-less Petron Blaze Boosters last Saturday. Before losing to Petron, Rain or Shine bowed to the Talk N Text Tropang Texters, 86-76.

Lee also came alive in the final two quarters where he delivered 13 of his 20 points, helping the Painters tally their sixth win in nine games good for solo third in the standings.

Cebuano big man JR Quiñahan added 11 markers for Rain or Shine, while Jeff Chan chipped in 10.

Barako Bull continued to struggle as it tasted its fifth straight defeat to drop to 3-6 (win-loss).

Import Evan Brock led the Energy Colas with 23 points.

Meanwhile, the league slapped former Globalport import Walter Sharpe with a P40,000 fine after he was photographed sleeping in a parking lot in Pasig City early morning Monday.

“For inappropriate public behavior caused by the aggravating circumstance of alcohol intoxication, Mr. Walter Sharpe is hereby fined the amount of P40,000,” PBA Commissioner Chito Salud said in a statement.

Globalport sent Sharpe packing home because of the incident. Globalport will be bringing in ex-Georgia State Panther Sylvester Morgan as Sharpe’s replacement.

Morgan is expected to arrive tonight. Globalport, who is on an alarming six-game losing streak, will play the Air21 Express on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Morgan will be the third import for Globalport this conference. Before Sharpe, the team had Justin Williams as import.
