A 59-year-old woman was killed while her mother and their housemaid ended up in the hospital with serious injuries after two still unidentified men entered their house in Quezon City and stole pieces of jewelry and a sheaf of documents.
The two men later abandoned their getaway vehicle, a Mitsubishi Adventure with license plate WGB 738, inside the compound of Sto. Domingo Church, just meters away from one of the house of the victims, Maria Salud Gatmaitan, on Ipo Street in La Loma.
Gatmaitan died on the spot due to a slit throat while her mother, Noemi Pineda, and their housemaid, Maila Padera, were taken to the hospital for wounds on their faces and head after being hit by a blunt object.
SPO1 Joselito Gagaza of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said that witnesses told probers that at 11 a.m. yesterday, the Mitsubishi Adventure arrived at Gatmaitan’s two-story house. Two men alighted from the vehicle and were allowed to enter the house.
Several minutes later, neighbors said they heard someone screaming, “Stop it, Jay!” after which they saw the two men running out of the house and fleeing in their vehicle.
“The master bedroom was in complete disarray. There were several empty jewelry cases and according to one of the victims, she saw one of the men clutching a bundle of documents as they fled,” Gagaza said.
