Pasay hostage-taking probed; suspect still unknown

MANILA, Philippines—Authorities are looking into the identity of the man who was killed following a hostage-taking incident in Pasay City Tuesday that wounded two people, police said Wednesday.

Senior Police Officer 1 Gregorio Recio said the man, armed with a kitchen knife, held hostage a woman in Pasay City shortly before 5 p.m. as he tried to elude police who gave chase after he was spotted on FB Harrison-Buendia holding the bladed weapon.

Recio said the suspect was shot by authorities after he started stabbing the female victim five times—two to the chest and three on the hands.

The suspect was even removing the victims’ clothes.

“Parang batak sa droga [Looks like he was high on drugs],” Recio said, adding that the hostage drama lasted for about less than an hour.

He said another man was also wounded after being stabbed on his neck by the suspect.

The victims and the suspect were rushed to the hospital, but the suspect was declared dead on arrival at the Pasay City General Hospital at 5:40 p.m.
