SYDNEY – A fire truck racing to the scene of a blaze Sunday left two people dead in the northern Australian city of Darwin after it crashed into their vehicle, police said.
The airport fire truck was heading to a warehouse blaze in the city’s east when it ran into the four-wheel drive, crushing part of it.
“Two people were tragically killed,” police Commander Kym Davies said.
“At this stage we’re unable to ascertain exactly what has happened, it is a tragedy but we’re investigating.”
Police said a wharf-side warehouse caught fire early Sunday but there were no reported injuries from the blaze.
