Ravens, Raphael’s Sports Bar take early lead in Sunriser tilt

THE RAVENS and Raphael’s Sports Bar snatched the early lead in the standings in Bracket B after they registered wins in the Sunriser Inter-Higala basketball tournament last weekend at the Visayan Glass gym in Guadalupe.

The Ravens survived Sagbaf, 62-60, while Raphael’s stunned the defending champions, Autolab, 74-68. The two teams now hold identical 2-0 (win-loss) records while Autolab fell to 1-1. Sagbaf fell down the drain to 0-2.

The Ravens had control of the lead for most of the game but Sagbaf eventually tied the game at 60-all after a three-pointer by Vernz Limpangog. However, Sagbaf suffered a defensive breakdown that resulted in a foul being called on Sylvester Millevo on former Far Eastern University guard, Marty Pearce during the inbound play with 5.6 seconds left. Pearce calmly made the free-throws and the Ravens came away with the win with a stop on the game’s final play.

Former University of Cebu guard, Lawrence Agas, led the way for the Ravens with 14 points while former Cebu Institute of Technology hotshot, Sherwin Resilla, paced Sagbaf with 19.
