Beermen extend ABL streak to 5

THE San Miguel Beermen continued their winning roll as they grabbed their fifth straight win after beating the hosts Saigon Heat, 80-55, in the Asean Basketball League last Sunday night at the Tan Binh Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

The win put San Miguel’s record at 8-3 (win-loss) and just a whisper behind the league-leading Indonesia Warriors.

The Beermen pushed the pedal to the metal as early as the first period with a 21-8 lead and never looked back after that.

Fil-Italian guard Chris Banchero continued on his stellar scoring streak as he once again led the team with 20 points while import Brian Williams had 16 points, 14 rebounds and four steals. The team’s other import, Justin Williams, also had a double-double with 11 points, 12 boards and four blocks.

Former Ateneo star Jai Reyes held the fort down for the Heat with 14 points as they struggled to their seventh loss in 10 outings.

The Beermen’s next opponent will be the Singapore Slingers on March 24 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
