UP Alumni Association centennial ‘fiesta’

MANILA, Philippines—The 100th anniversary celebration of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA), with the theme “Bagong Siglo, Bagong Sigla,” begins on March 24, Palm Sunday, with a “family fiesta.”

The centennial festivities will kick off at 5:30 a.m. with the “Bagong Sigla Fun Run” for runners of all ages in three groups—3K, 6K, and 12K. Registration fees are P400, P500 and P700, respectively.

This will be followed at 9 a.m. by fiesta games like palo sebo, buko sebo, piñata, pabitin, “pin the donkey’s tail,” scrabble, checkers (dama), sungka, sipa, tug-of-war and arm-wrestling, in which UP alumni and family members can take part and win prizes.

Marching bands will parade on the streets around Ang Bahay ng Alumni. Fiesta booths offering food and beverages, souvenir items, games and prizes will be manned by UP Varsity teams and others in and around the venue.

At 1:30-5 p.m., a “Bagong Siglo Bingo” social with P150,000 in cash prizes will be held at the Luciano Salazar Hall of Ang Bahay ng Alumni. Tickets for five regular games are available for P300 each. Surprise raffle prizes are also at stake.

Preregistration for the Bagong Sigla Fun Run are being accepted at UPAA, Ang Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman; Office of Alumni Affairs, UP Manila; Alumni Center, UP Los Baños; Chris Sports (SM Fairview, SM North Annex, SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall); and Fitness and Athletics, Bonifacio Global City.

Proceeds from the family fiesta will help fund other UPAA centennial events and projects.
