Representative Maliksi says politics behind slay of supporter

MANILA, Philippines—Cavite Representative Erineo “Ayong” Maliksi had a hunch that the killing of his supporter in Cavite, a former Association of Barangay Captains president, had something to do with politics.

Police said Boy Picache was at the market in Cavite City early Tuesday when a still unidentified suspect arrived and shot him twice with a .45- caliber pistol.

“Pulitika yan. . .  kasi for a while naging inactive sa pulitika pero mula nang tayo ay mangampanya. . . napaka active ulit niya (That’s politics because for a while [he’s been] inactive in politics but when that campaign season started, he became active again,” Maliksi said in an interview on Radyo Inqurier 990AM early Tuesday.

Maliksi said he has ordered authorities to solve the case immediately for possible identification and arrest of the suspect.

“Napaka raming tao sa palengke araw na araw . . . tiyak na somewhere sa vicinity nyan ay may nakakita (There are so many people in the marketplace every day, I’m sure somewhere in the vicinity someone saw what happened),” he said.
