Cebu  Queen City United (CQCU) FC successfully defended its Men’s Open title in the 15th Aboitiz Football Cup, which came to an end yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

Despite being handicapped on defense, CQCU FC routed Hiroshi FC, 3-0, enroute to retaining its title.

Head coach Mario Ceniza said they compensated the loss of Brian Eborda and Miguel Gonzales by constantly being on the attack on offense.

Ceniza made the right decision when he transferred Ariel Cahilig from the right to the left flank after the booter drilled in CQCU FC’s first goal from more than 30 yards.

Cahilig’s goal seemed to have dampened the spirits of Hiroshi FC as CQCU FC started getting more advantage, which resulted to a second goal from Junard Aguilar, who just returned to the first 11.

Xamxon Olaniyi capped CQCU’s victory after he converted a penalty kick in the second half.

After several misses, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) finally grabbed a title via the Under-23 category.

USPF blanked University of San Carlos (USC), 2-0, anchored on combination passes in the penalty box that resulted to goals from Jasper Gerarman in the 36th minute and Albert Tejas in the 72nd minute.

Head coach Eleazar Toledo said his team is manned mostly by newbies with only three veterans left.

Hiroshi FC did not go home without a title as it grabbed the 38-above crown after also blanking ERCO FC, 2-0.
