500 families left homeless in Tondo fire

Around 500 families lost their houses when a fire hit Tondo, Manila, on Saturday night.

Senior Fire Officer 3 John Joseph Jalique said in a report that the blaze started at 9 p.m. in the house of Nora Cambri at 726 Canal dela Reina in the  Moriones area.

The flames quickly spread and destroyed 200 homes, mostly shanties.

The damage to property was pegged at P5 million. The cause of the fire, which reached the fifth alarm before it was put out at 12:32 a.m. Sunday, was still being verified.

The arson investigation report said that some were injured although it did not identify those who were hurt.
