A reenactment of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ will be staged in barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City during the Holy Week to help people ponder upon the mysteries of the faith.
Aljin Abaquita, the director of the play, said they would want the audience to see themselves on the different characters being portrayed.
The Buhing Kalbaryo or the commemoration of Jesus’ passion and death be portrayed on the streets of Guadalupe and shall end at the premises of the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe de Cebu on Good Friday, March 29.
On Easter Sunday (March 31), the Sugat sa Guadalupe will be staged outside the Guadalupe Shrine from midnight to 4 a.m.
Abaquita said the theme for this year’s celebration is connected with the Catholic Church’s declaration of the Year of Faith.
Aside from entertainment, Abaquita said the plays would be done to help the construction of the Guadalupe Shrine convent.
“This serves as an income generating project,” he said during a press conference at the Crown Regency Hotel in barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City yesterday.
Although the plays can be seen by everyone for free, solicitation letters will be distributed to several individuals so they can give any amount for the Church project. /Reporter Ador Vincent S. Mayol
