A businessman on board a newly bought BMW sedan was ambushed in barangay Carreta, Cebu City yesterday afternoon.
Edgar Lim, 49, a resident of General Maxilom Avenue in barangay Day-as, Cebu City, sustained gunshot wounds in his stomach and right cheek, said Renato Generoso, a supervisor of the Cebu City Integrated Traffic Operations Management (Citom).
Generoso said he was driving his motorcycle on a roving inspection around 5 p.m. when he saw the bloodied driver of the BMW 320D near the junction of J.C. Vera Street and General Maxilom Avenue.
The victim cried out for help.
“Igo ra ko niya gitaparan samtang nag drive ko sa akong motor. Unya niingon siya: tabangi ko kay napusilan ko,” Generoso recounted.
(He drove alongside my motorcycle and said, ‘Help me, I’ve been shot’.)
The Citom supervisor called for paramedics. About 15 minutes later before emergency response units came, Lim’s wife, Viola arrived and brought him to Chong Hua Hospital.
Generoso said the victim was able to tell him that the assailant was riding a motorcycle.
The motive of the shooting was not known.
SPO4 Rey Cuyos said the victim’s family was at a loss over why Lim was attacked, and said he had no known enemies.
Lim was described as a businessman engaged in business networking.
A witness who asked not to be identified said the gunman headed towards Talisay City.
A traffic enforcer near the crime scene tried to chase the assailant and was fired upon.
The BMW sedan still bore the dealer’s plate, Autowelt.
The glass rear wind screen and right window were shattered by bullets, said Senior Insp. Leonides Casul of the police Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco).
Police did not recover any slugs from the area.
A fighting cock placed in a native bag or bayong was found in the back seat of the car.
