THE SAN MIGUEL Beermen hope to grab the lead in the standings from the league-leading Indonesia Warriors when they take on the Singapore Slammers today in a triple-header of games that is part of the Asean Basketball League’s Hoops Fest Saigon 2013 in Vietnam.
The Beermen have found their groove of late and have won three straight games for a 6-3 (win-loss) record, just a notch behind the Warriors’ 7-3 mark.
It remains to be seen though how San Miguel will play without their leading scorer import Gabe Freeman, who has been replaced by defensive stalwart Justin Williams.
Williams is fresh off a stint with the GlobalPort Batang Pier in the PBA and will be looked upon to shoulder some of 18.3 points per game that Freeman left on the table with his injury to his knee.
Also expected to step up for the Beermen are league MVP Leo Avenido, Asi Taulava and new guard Jeric Fortuna.
Also playing today are hosts Saigon Heat, which will facing off against the Westport Malaysia Dragons and the Warriors, which will be taking on the Chang Thailand Slammers. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
