Lou Ornopia basketball tournament kicks off tomorrow

ALL IS SET for the inaugural season of the Brgy. Capt. Lou Ornopia Basketball Tournament, which gets underway tomorrow at the barangay Calambua open court in San Remigio town, northern Cebu.

The opening ceremony of the tournament will start at 2 p.m., said Calambua barangay captain and sportsman Lou Ornopia.

Highlighting the opening salvo is the awarding of best muse and best in uniform. The champion team will get P10,000, while the second and third placers will receive P7,000 and P5,000, respectively.

The fourth finisher will bring home P3,000.

The best muse and best in uniform awards will be handed during the opening ceremony.

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) and members of Mythical Five will be feted at the end of the tournament, which is supported by the barangay council of Calambua.

“We are holding this tournament because we want the people of Calambua and its neighboring barangays in San Remigio to experience highly entertaining basketball action. Seldom they see a highly competitive game with star players joining in and this is their opportunity,” said Ornopia, a former Sportsman of the Year awardee of the Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC).

Ornopia is considered as the godfather of Cebu motocross.

Aside from the Calambua barangay council, the tournament is also backed by MS Motosuit. Some private entities have also pooled their resources to back up the summer cagefest including Bradder Moto Access, F & F Motor Parts, RMO Motor Parts, Prospeed, Motomaze, JCO Motor Parts, Keiz BJ Motors, Leizel Navarez, and the families of Saludar, Ycot, Ornopia, Montealto, Armenion, Jubay, De la Peña and Vincent Golbe. /EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D.
