Fareñas US fight slated April 27
MICHAEL Fareñas will return to the United States for a ten-round non-title superfeatherweight bout against Hardy ‘El Huracan’ Paredes.
Former two division world champion and budding promoter Gerry Peñalosa informed CDN about his protégé’s next bout which will be held in Austin, Texas on April 27.
Fareñas (34W-4L-4D, 26 KOs) gave a gutsy stand in a losing effort against Yuriorkis Gamboa in a WBA interim superfeatherweight title fight in Las Vegas last December.
Fareñas was knocked down in rounds two and seven but scored a knockdown of his own in the ninth round before bowing by unanimous decision in a fight featured on the undercard of Pacquiao-Marquez IV.
Carlos Peñalosa, Gerry’s brother, will accompany Fareñas to the U.S. this March 23. Fareñas is in search of another big break. His other title shot last year against WBA superfeatherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama ended in a three round technical draw in Japan.
The 30 year-old Paredes (16W-11L, 10 KOs) hails from Chile where he won featherweight and lightweight titles. He fought in the U.S. twice last year, losing to Terence Crawford (TKO4) and winning against Rafael Reyes (KO2). /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
