Household employers, or those who hire domestic help, need to register with the Social Security System and secure an “employer number.”
The pension fund said Wednesday that based on new guidelines that it issued as part of requirements under the newly enacted Kasambahay Law, household employers cannot use their personal SSS number in paying contributions for their household helper—as was the previous practice.
The law ensures social security coverage for workers such as maids, family drivers, nursemaids or yaya, gardeners, cooks and laundry women.
Edgar B. Solilapsi, SSS officer in charge, said in a statement the employer number of ER number serves to differentiate between contributions for a member’s own social security and those for his or her house helpers.—Ronnel W. Domingo
