Cash gifts for top Taguig grads

Mayor Lani Cayetano: This is Taguig City’s way of rewarding our children who have struggled against overwhelming odds and come out on top of their respective classes.

Academic excellence literally pays off in Taguig City with the approval of an ordinance that grants cash incentives of up to P30,000 to  outstanding elementary and high school graduates in public schools.

The initial beneficiaries of the ordinance—the first to be passed by the city government this year—will be this year’s top 10 graduates from each of the city’s public schools. They will be given the monetary reward on their graduation day.

High school valedictorians and salutatorians will each receive P30,000 and P25,000, respectively. The amounts include the P10,000 cash gift given to each of the top 10 students for every batch of graduates.

The best student of each section,  on the other hand, will receive P5,000.

In public elementary schools, the valedictorians can look forward to a cash reward of P15,000 while salutatorians will receive P12,500.

The amounts include the P5,000 cash incentive allotted by the city government for each school’s top 10 graduating students. The outstanding student for each section, meanwhile, will get P2,500.

“This is Taguig City’s way of rewarding our children who have struggled against overwhelming odds and come out on top of their respective classes,” Mayor Lani Cayetano said.

The city government is also expected to grant more scholarships in the coming school year after the city council raised the allocation for the program to P300 million from last year’s P200 million.
